Fight for Humanity. Written by Charles 'Bones' Jones
Whether you have fought before or not this is a FANTASTIC experience.
I got involved with this Humanitas event as i used to kick box but have not done so for many years and was keen on the idea of fighting again and also love doing things for charity so it was a win win. I'm not going to lie and say it was easy because it wasn’t, the training was really tough and I faced a lot of challenges because I was in bad shape and suffered a couple of injuries. The thing that really helped was the team spirit of the guys I was training with. We were all in the same boat and worked together as a team to pull each other through and get to the finish line. We trained 3 times a week minimum as a team on fitness and basic boxing skills and got to train with a variety of fighters from other gyms who were all really helpful.
The actual night of the fight was one of the best experiences of my life. The venue was great and you feel like a superstar from the moment you arrive. There was points in the evening where we were watching the other fights and chatting to the guys we would be fighting, everyone was great and having a laugh together. I have to be honest and say that even though I have fought before I was definitely nervous as i have never had so many family and friends there to watch me. The highlight of the experience for me was definitely the walk out as you feel just like it is on TV. You have your own walk out music, all your friends are there and the crowd is cheering for you. It feels AWESOME and that was the point when all of the nerves slipped away. As for the fight itself it’s a bit of a blur! But at the end we were both still standing and neither of us was really hurt, it was just good clean boxing and putting on a show for the crowd.
For anyone out there thinking of doing this then just go for it. Yes you are going to get hit and yes its going to be tough but its worth every minute of it. Its an experience I will never forget and I have made some great new friends at the same time. I'm definitely up for doing it again!
