Community Support in Ghana
We have been working in Ghana for over a decade, and our focus is on supporting rural and remote communities. Our holistic approach has seen us provide education, health care, clean water, feeding programmes and vocational skills training with the mission of working alongside, not over, communities to help break the cycle of poverty.
Education Matters
Our education programmes serve pre-school, junior and junior high school students with additional support for university scholarships. We have witnessed firsthand the success of providing rural communities with access to education. Our educational offering includes IT training, sports coaching and libraries - all contributing to students’ success in higher education and future employment.
Clean Water, Farming and Food
We provide free access to clean water wells within the communities we work in, and within our school facilities. We also ensure that our students receive daily meals which help greatly with their learning and personal nutrition.
Our farming programme provides free land for widows and single parent families, giving them the opportunity to grow food to consume but also to sell. This programme also supports the kitchens in our schools where they cook up the produce that is grown on the land.
Vocational Skills
Many children attending rural schools in Ghana are leaving with a basic education. This is not sufficient for them to secure skilled jobs in the towns and cities that will help lift their families out of poverty. The state run colleges that teach vocational courses are many miles from the rural villages, and most families cannot afford the cost of public transport to send their children to study. Our sewing school gives students and those living in the local community the opportunity to learn how to sew clothes, bags and household items. The programme also provides the equipment needed for successful students to set up their own businesses once they have completed their course.
Support for Orphans
There are over 120 orphans living in the rural village of Ayensuako in Ghana. We have rebuilt and extended their home and provided comfortable and clean-living conditions as well as a library. We continue to support these extremely vulnerable children with their health care and educational needs. We have also provided the children living at the orphanage with bikes so they can travel the long distance to school each day.
